Strazzanti Celebrate the Sicilian Opera dei Pupi at their March Supper Club
Strazzanti announces their next Sicilian Supper Club, The Opera dei Pupi, showcasing the art of the 18th century Sicilian tradition paired with a five-course Italian feast. Taking place on the 22nd and 23rd March at Hackney Coffee Company, The Opera dei Pupi will be a candlelit dinner hidden in east London. The next in the series which follow Strazzanti’s November and February suppers celebrating Sicilian Orange Groves and the romance of Sicily’s Almond Blossom harvest respectively will see east London Sicilian Puppets suspended over the tables and cascading red candles decorating the room.
Strazzanti has teamed up with east London set designer and puppet maker Clea Raguideau to celebrate The Opera dei Pupi, an integral part and core symbol of Sicily’s cultural identity. Raguideau will handmake traditional Sicilian puppets which will form the decoration for the evenings as guests dine in a secret room hidden underneath a plethora of candles.
The evening will start off with a selection of aperitivo and antipasti including crispy deep-fried cheese with honey and Sicilian oregano and succulent tomatoes with Strazzatni’s pesto Trapanese served with E5 Hackney Wild Bread which will be enjoyed with a Campari cocktail. For the main affair, aromatic slow cooked lamb with rosemary and pecorino on east London’s Pasta e Basta’s fresh pasta. The next course is La Passeggiata of Sfinci di San Giuseppe, a doughnut like pastry filled with fresh ricotta and candied orange inspired by the leisurely stroll taken on an evening in Italy. Finally, for Dolci diners can indulge in all three flavours of Strazzanti’s signature cakes, Sicilian almond, pistachio & hazelnut.
Ex-Dorchester chef, Emilia Strazzanti wanted to show her passion and Sicilian heritage through her cooking and experiences using Sicilian produce and authentic food which is how Strazzanti was founded and is reflected on the table at her supper clubs. British born to Sicilian parents, London is home to Emilia who wanted this to be represented in her dishes and has chosen to work with east London artisans to bring together the community.
