Super-premium rum, Diplomático, has announced the launch of a new iteration of Mixed Consciously, the UK leg of its global cocktail competition Artisans of Taste. This year’s contest will see bartenders from all over the country competing to win an all-expenses paid trip to Venezuela and their recipe published in the brand’s 2023 Zero Waste Cocktail Book.

The popular competition continues with its sustainable focus and requires that entrants come up with a serve that uses each element to its full potential to reduce its impact on the environment using either Diplomático Rum or for the first time Canaïma Gin. The drink can also include homemade ingredients or local produce.

This year’s judging panel will be composed of Tatiana Velez, expert in climate change and sustainable development, and specialist in international tourism and hospitality management, 2021 winner Katie Rouse and Speciality Brands’ Head of Mixology, Jon Lister. The entrant displaying a combination of creative flair and sustainable approach will be crowned Artisans of Taste, Mixed Consciously winner 2022.

From August onwards, Dean MacGregor, Diplomático’s UK brand ambassador will tour the country hosting training sessions and workshops to introduce bartenders to the competition. On 15 September 2022 he will host a digital session with a guest appearance from Tatiana focusing on applying sustainable practices in the hospitality industry.

The competition’s final will be held on Tuesday 1 November at Couch Katie Rouse’s bar in Stirchley, near Birmingham.
