Celebrated restaurateurs, Robin and Sarah Gill worked with South London-based Studio Found to create Parisian-inspired wine bar and bistro

Studio Found, a South London-based design agency has collaborated with restaurateurs Robin and Sarah Gill to create a Parisian-inspired wine bar in Brixton.

The recently opened all-day bar, located in Market Row, an area formerly used by market traders, offers guests a raw, yet intimate space centred around a beautiful marble, brass and walnut bar.  This provides a bold focal point where guests can enjoy natural wines, a small selection of crafted cocktails and bistro-style dishes based on the French classics*.

Bottle + Rye complements other neighbourhood London restaurants owned and run by Robin, Sarah and their team.  Its pared-back design concept complements the wine and food on offer as well as the unique location and constrained space of the venue.

The design brief was to create a venue inspired by Parisian café culture, which both Robin and Sarah love.  They wanted to recreate the ambiance and bustle of a Parisian bistro with a relaxed and intimate space with seating for up to 28 guests.

“We decided to take the raw unfinished shell and to elevate it through the choice of quality materials that would enhance rather than overshadow the existing small space,” said Ed Plumb, founder and director of Studio Found.  “Brixton is already awash with rough and ready venues, so we wanted to find a way to stand out from the crowd.  We worked closely with Robin and Sarah to reinterpret the Parisian-style bistro so that it also stayed honest and connected to its location and space.”

“Sarah and I loved working with Studio Found on this project.  They managed to bring to life our idea of a wine bar inspired by the Parisian cafe culture that we are so fond of.  Ed and the team have created a unique space that we hope will be a local favourite in Brixton Market.”
