Chotto Matte opens today!

Soho’s renowned restaurant, Chotto Matte, is thrilled to announce the opening of its newest site, situated in the elegant residential setting of Marylebone today!

The expansion of Chotto Matte in iconic cities across the US such as San Francisco, Nashville, and Los Angeles, demonstrates remarkable success for the restaurant group, even despite the unforeseen impact of the pandemic.

Current sites include the Soho flagship, alongside Miami and Toronto.

Marylebone Village is one of London’s most desirable residential districts, while also offering sophisticated shopping destinations. Located a few minutes’ walk north of Oxford Street, but very different in personality, it offers an array of diverse and up-market eating destinations, surrounded by period architecture and attractive green spaces.

Compared to the hustle of downtown Soho, Chotto Matte Marylebone will provide a more relaxed hub, adapting seamlessly to the location, while the unmistakable essence of the brand remains at the forefront.

Opening today, Chotto Matte will take this area by storm and show the locals what they’ve been missing.

Chotto Matte’s founder Kurt Zdesar mentions:

“We are delighted to continue our expansion plans for Chotto Matte. We cannot wait for the new phase of growth to allow more people to experience the very best of authentic innovative Nikkei cuisine in stylish architectural spaces across the globe. We are proud to expand our brand in such an elegant neighbourhood and bring the spirit of Chotto Matte to the Marylebone locals. We are confident the community will appreciate the brand and its values.”

The new site will be designed by award-winning architect and long standing brand partner Andy Martin Architecture (AMA). The Marylebone site will adorn beautiful features such as natural lava stone surrounding the restaurant and an artistic structure on the ceiling for guests to gaze up to. All key design features are inspired by Tokyo’s contemporary urban culture.

American multidisciplinary artist and illustrator Lefty Out There has been commissioned to do the artwork for the new Marylebone site.

His bold and intricate work, often working with intuitive and repeated shapes, has gained recognition over years by fine art galleries, interior designers and fashion brands.

Lefty has previously done the art work for Chotto Matte Toronto, and is currently exhibiting for the second time at Maddox Gallery in Mayfair with his new show A Simple Mark.

Chotto Matte’s entertainment will follow the brand to the new location. Customers will enjoy immersive experiences and artistic activations.

Group Executive Chef Jordan Sclare has designed the menu, with new dishes exclusively available in Marylebone. Sclare has played a fundamental role in the conception of the Chotto Matte culinary identity, constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional Nikkei techniques.

The Marylebone menu will include a range of thrilling new dishes, drawing on classic Japanese themes. Additions include fatty tuna (O-Toro) and robatayaki salmon, shot through with exciting European and South American nuances, including smoked jalapeño chilli, persimmon (sharon fruit) and truffle.

Trained and inspired by Sclare, Begonya Sanchez will wear the Head Chef hat with pride at Chotto Matte’s latest UK opening. She states:

“I am so excited to bring the Chotto Matte experience to Marylebone and showcase my potential as their Head Chef. We are introducing a collection of brand new premium dishes for the launch, combining the essence of Chotto Matte with an elevated dining experience.”

The opening of Marylebone also sees the launch of the highly anticipated new Tokyo to Lima cocktail menu. Diners will be the first to try the offering of 10 new drinks, set to be rolled out to all Chotto Matte restaurants globally. Inspired by the evolution of Nikkei cuisine and designed to complement the unique flavours of the dishes, the expertly curated collection guarantees to bring something fresh to the table.

Each of the creations push the boundaries by mixing premium spirits with signature ingredients from the kitchen which are surprising and uncommonly found in cocktails, including coriander, teriyaki, miso, and black pepper.

Global Bar Manager Gabor Fodor has been working on the project, he says:

“I began my career in Marylebone and I am thrilled to be back and to bring the distinctive flair of Chotto with me. The process of working on the new cocktail menu has been both educational and rewarding and I can’t wait for the locals to experience what we’ve created. My team and I are looking forward to the opening and providing a truly unforgettable service to our guests”.
