Bread is the heart and soul of Ukraine, a vital resource deeply woven into the fabric of the nation’s identity and culture. This deep connection is poignantly symbolised in the Ukrainian flag, where blue represents the sky and yellow signifies the vast grain fields. The extremely fertile land has made the country an important global grain producer, providing 7-12% of the world’s wheat supply alone. Amid the ongoing conflict, Bake for Ukraine are leading a crucial effort to work with local bakeries and maintain the continuity of bread production in war-torn regions. Passionate supporters like Bread Ahead are uniting to support and safeguard this essential element of Ukrainian heritage.

Bread Ahead, renowned international artisanal bakery and baking school, are proud to announce its collaboration with the non-profit organisation, Bake for Ukraine. Inspired by the work of TV news journalist Felicity Spector, who has been tirelessly supporting Ukraine on the ground, Bread Ahead are eager to join forces with and raise vital funds for a cause close to their heart.

How Bread Ahead are Supporting:

1. Bake Sale at Borough Market

• From Tuesday, 20th August 2024, to Sunday, 25th August 2024, Bread Ahead will be selling traditional Ukrainian Palyanytsya bread at their Borough Market bakery. Each loaf will be available for a donation of £10, with all proceeds going directed to Bake for Ukraine.

2. Special In-Person Workshops

• On Saturday, 24th August 2024, coinciding with Ukraine Independence Day, Bread Ahead will conduct special baking workshops titled “An Introduction to Ukrainian Baking” where just x12 bakers will learn to make three traditional Ukrainian breads using simple and natural ingredients – Vatrushka (sweet buns), Pampushky (garlic rolls) and traditional Black Bread. These workshops will take place in Wembley during the morning and at Borough in the afternoon. Priced at £125 per person, 50% of the revenue from these workshops will be donated to support the Ukraine fundraising appeal. BOOK Ukrainian Baking Workshops – Wembley & Borough 24th Aug

Bake for Ukraine Mission:

Bake for Ukraine is dedicated to supporting local bakeries in the war-affected regions. They provide essential ingredients, maintain crucial equipment, and ensure bakers’ salaries are met. Their initiatives include the acquisition of a mobile bakery in Odesa to deliver bread to frontline towns and villages, with plans to also support bakeries in Mykolaiv and Dnipro and build a new bakery in Saltivka.
