Casa do Frango, London’s cult Piri-Piri chicken spot, announces the opening of their fourth site in the capital. With three sites already in London Bridge, Shoreditch and Piccadilly, Casa do Frango will open in Victoria on Monday 26th June, with reservations now available via their website.
Straight from the Algarve, Casa do Frango brings The Spirit of Southern Portugal and the region’s
unpretentious dining culture to London. Their Victoria restaurant follows the successful opening of the brand’s flagship and largest site to date on Heddon Street, Piccadilly in October 2022, and it will not be the last; MJMK recently announced a crowdfunding campaign to further their group expansion.
Just a stone’s throw from Victoria station, Casa do Frango will make its home in the Nova development. Set across two floors and seating 260 guests, there will be a large, light-flooded ground floor: a secondfloor mezzanine, and an alfresco, street-side terrace. With its flexible space, buzzy vibe, and relaxed hospitality, it is modest and welcoming – making it the ideal spot for all occasions.
The menu will be a continuation of the other three sites, with all the fan favourites firmly on the menu and a new selection of fresh, seasonal dishes to complement. At the heart of the menu is Frango Piri-Piri – now internationally renowned, this Algarvian staple finds its roots in Mozambique and Angola, where the Malagueta chillies flourished. True to its origins and drawing on co-founder Marco Mendes’ Algarvian heritage, Casa do Frango use an age-old Piri-Piri recipe, perfected over time; half a chicken is grilled over an open-fire, stoked with wood charcoal to create the unmistakable flavour and char that is paramount to the dish, dubbed by critics as “the best chicken and chips in town.”
Alongside the main event, traditional sharing plates draw from some of Portugal’s most iconic dishes – Iberico Pork Croquettes, Bacalhau Fritters, Grilled Chorizo and Piri-Piri Garlic Prawns – accompanied by sides that are essential to every Casa experience – signature African Rice made with Portuguese Carolino rice, chorizo, crispy chicken skin and plantain; Batatas Fritas; and a crisp, zesty Casa Slaw with a sherry vinegar & mustard dressing, the perfect foil to Frango Piri-Piri. New for the summer season, the menu will also feature Crispy Fried Green Beans, served with Piri-Piri mayo (a take on a traditional Portuguese dish Peixinhos da Horta, meaning “little fishes from the garden”); Baby Gem Salad with chargrilled peppers and sweet white onion; and a summery Heritage Tomato Salad. To finish, the national icon Pastéis de Nata (made fresh on-site every day) and a nostalgic favourite, Chocolate Mousse, a classic end to any meal in the Algarve’s famous chicken restaurants.
As always, there will be an exclusively Portuguese wine list, spanning the rich reds of the Alentejo and Douro Valley to the crisp world of Vinho Verde, including Casa do Frango’s first own label wine – Boa Pinga – a lightly effervescent Vinho Verde from Monção,created by their friends at Quinta de Santiago. For those looking for something stronger, the cocktail list is full of Portuguese spirit. The classic White Port & Tonic is a refreshing start to a meal, and for the perfect pick-me-up, there is a spicy Piri-Piri Margarita and a Caipirinha made with a Portuguese rum from Madeira, Aguardente de Cana.
Casa do Frango’s sunny and authentic interiors have become somewhat of a signature look and Victoria will live up to this; designed by CO:DE Studios. Floor to ceiling glass floods this airy and attractive space in light, its corners filled with hanging green foliage, traditional Portuguese tiles, and wrought iron detailing. Blonde oak furniture sits atop reclaimed wooding flooring, finishing the look of a space reminiscent of the region’s humble roots and undeniable charm.
Casa do Frango Victoria will open on Monday 26th June 2023.
