Opening 18th February 2022
Following the success of his first restaurant in Vauxhall, chef and founder Ajay Chaurasia is now launching Bombay Delight in Wimbledon, opening 18th February 2022. Bringing hidden gems of Indian cuisine to South-west London, the menu at Bombay Delight will feature a number of lesser-known, regional Indian dishes alongside all-time favourites, with a focus on using fresh ingredients and fragrant spices to bring traditional recipes to life.
Chaurasia’s depth of knowledge has allowed him to devise a menu which captures the true essence of India. Passionate about bringing the flavours of all corners of the Indian continent to the restaurant in London, Bombay Delight will be sourcing spices directly from India and creating their own house-blends to create beautifully fragrant dishes. To kick off the meal, the line-up of appetisers are made to be shared. From the sea, Tiltala Jhinga – crispy succulent king prawns coated with de-hulled sesame seeds & gram flour and Crispy Calamari marinated with ginger, garlic & lemon juice. Other highlights include Sticky Tamarind Wings and Avocado Chat – a contemporary spin on the classic street food snack. From the tandoor, there will be Murgh Hariyali Tikka – grilled chicken breast marinated with fresh green spices & hung yoghurt and a vegan Tandoori Bhutta – tandoor marinated & charred corn on the cob coated in a desi mango salsa and vegan chilli mayo.
The menu will include chicken and lamb curries packed full of flavour, with a choice of long-standing favourites such as the Bombay Butter Chicken, alongsidemore unusual options like the Nashila Gosh lamb curry with red wine and rum and the Lamb Angara, a spicy slow cooked curry using smoked lamb, onion, tomato, ginger and garlic. As well as the traditional meat curries, the menu will celebrate the South Indian seafood curries we all know and love. Highlights include a Jhinga Dil Bahar king prawn curry with tomato and coconut milk and a Keralan Monkfish Alleppey with coconut and raw mango.
With vegetarian sides such as Masala Dosa – an Indian-style pancake filled with potatoes and onion and Methi Chaman – a unique dish made using grated paneer, fenugreek and spinach, Chaurasia has created a menu which is varied and inventive and showcases his years of experience and passion for Indian cuisine. Rice, biryani, paratha, naan and roti will all be in abundance, ready to mop up the curries and dals which will fill the tables.
Partnering with Coalition Brewing as their beer supplier, a special “Bombay Delight Lager” will be available exclusively for the new restaurant alongside a drinks menu which includes an exciting selection of wines, beers and cocktails.
Ajay comments: “Our goal is to use fresh, high quality ingredients to create authentic Indian dishes that diners will love. With Bombay Delight I really want to showcase all that Indian cuisine has to offer. Having a variety of curries and other regional dishes that Londoners might never have heard of on the menu gives me the chance to introduce them to lesser-known Indian specialities. Especially when it comes to seafood, there are so many fantastic recipes which make use of it and I really wanted to showcase this at the new restaurant.”
The spacious, open layout at Bombay Delight can seat up to 120 covers and the large private dining room towards the back of the restaurant is perfect for bigger groups and celebrations. An inviting lounge area greets visitors upon entering and the fully equipped bar is the perfect spot to grab a drink and relax before or after dining. Reflecting the authenticity of the food, the furniture and decor are custom-made and imported from India creating an all-round immersive dining experience.
Bombay delight will open on 18th February at 271-273, The Broadway in Wimbledon.
