THE DUCHESS OF DALSTON IS ON THEIR WAY: NEW COCKTAIL BAR LAUNCH FROM AWARD-WINNING CALLOOH CALLAY FOUNDER

Former Mahiki and Callooh Callay bartender Nazarath Rodriguez to lead the drinks program and head up the management team

Callooh Callay founder Richard Wynne adds another sibling to his cocktail bar family with The Duchess of Dalston launch early July. The multi-faceted neighborhood cocktail bar and brunch spot aims to embrace the diverse demographic of Dalston – promoting equality and well-being through in-house training programs, social media, brand activations and in house events.

Appealing to those of a curios, rebellious and adventurous nature and residing alongside Hacha and 3 Sheets on Kingsland Road, The Duchess of Dalston is named after the antagonist to the Queen of Hearts in Lewis Carroll’s, Alice in Wonderland and will open in mid-June with capacity for up to 70 covers indoors, either by way of comfy booth seating or stools at the bar.

Continuing the award-winning cocktail philosophy of Callooh Callay, owner Richard Wynne and his team have created a showstopping bar menu, including signature drinks infused with home grown herbs from the venue’s flat roof as well as locally sourced ingredients from Ridley Road Market, honey from Bermondsey Street Bees and a local favourite Vietnamese Coffee blend.

Nazareth Rodriguez, formerly of Mahiki and previous bartender at Callooh Callay, will be heading up a team of accomplished bartenders with an egalitarian approach to recruitment and a revolving drinks menu. Naz will bring his vibrant mix of Mexican culture and British eccentricity to the menu which will consist of up to 12 drinks at any one time.

The exceptional cocktail line-up includes devilishly delicious serves, all priced at £12 each, such as:

●      Ridley Me This; a long, refreshing, surprisingly silken serve produced by Naz using his own unique tepache recipe and named after Dalston’s famous Ridley Road Market where a lot of the ingredients are sourced

●      The Duchess’s take on a gimlet – aptly named The Duchess – made with Hendrick`s & Pink Pepper Gins, Giffard Banane du Brésil Liqueur, Tío Pepe Sherry, Avocado Leaf Syrup and Lemon to create a serve that’s smooth, strong, and rich with the unexpected

●      Aunty’s Special, a short & icy serve that’s bound to put some pep in your step for brunch, the impressive cocktail draws you in with the hints of caramel and whiskied dried fruit, only to kick into full gear with the no-nonsense cold brew herbaceousness, finally relaxing into the nostalgic chocolatey flavours of traditional Vietnamese Coffee and condensed milk

Richard Wynne says: “In creating The Duchess of Dalston, we’ve embraced the resources and the history of the Dalston area itself, whilst also bringing our own touch of personality and experience into the drinks menu. The result is a neighbourhood cocktail bar full of culture that perfectly complements the surrounding area and provides a welcome and friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome”

The Duchess food & drink menus will be available to order via Deliveroo, allowing those local to the bar to choose from a selection of 250ml and 500ml cocktails and a selection of small plates and brunch dishes from the soon-to-be-announced food residency menu to enjoy at home.

Brunch at The Duchess of Dalston will be served Saturday & Sunday 10am – 3pm with anything from drag acts to jazz quartets providing the entertainment alongside.
