Ashby-de-la-Zouch Restaurant up for sale for first time in 40 years in Bond Wolfe’s July auction

Fans of Masterchef looking to start their own business could walk straight through the doors of La Zouch, a Grade II listed town centre restaurant in the centre of Ashby-de-la- Zouch.

The vacant freehold property at 2 Kilwardby Street is up for sale in Bond Wolfe’s next auction on Thursday 9 July.

The attractive property is currently equipped and set up for restaurant/café bar use but could be suitable for a wide variety of alternative uses, according to Ian Tudor, commercial auction director at Bond Wolfe.

It also has an apartment across the building’s two upper floors, consisting of a lounge/kitchen/diner, rear dining room, meeting room and utility room on the first floor, and three double and one single bedrooms on the second floor.

To the rear is a walled garden which complements the ground floor restaurant area where the dining area is 847 sq ft leading to a commercial kitchen and utility room.

It is listed in the auction with a guide price of £250,000+.

Ian Tudor said: “The property comprises an attractive double bay fronted three storey building, which has traded as La Zouch Restaurant and specialist wine and whisky suppliers by the current owners, for over 40 years.

“In the first instance, it offers budding restaurateurs the chance to set up in an established location.

“But the central location provides a range of alternative uses, subject to planning permission.”

“Given the historic nature and ongoing popularity of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, it is an attractive proposition in a great area, regardless of its ultimate use.”

The town is primarily famous for its striking ruined castle—a key stronghold in the English Civil War and the setting for Sir Walter Scott’s classic novel “Ivanhoe”, as well as its 19th-century spa heritage.

La Zouch will be among 173 lots featuring in Bond Wolfe’s next auction, which starts at 8.30am on Thursday 9 July. The auction will be livestreamed via Bond Wolfe’s website with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet.
