Oblix at The Shard hosts the Cointreau Margarita Challenge 2023 Runner-up for one night only

Last night saw mixology legends from Quinary Bar in Hong Kong land in London as part of their international tour for a one night ‘guest shift’ at Oblix East, located on the 32nd floor at The Shard. Coinciding with the launch of London Cocktail Week, Oblix was the only venue in the capital to host the Quinary Bar team fresh off the back of the Cointreau Margarita Challenge.

Quinary has consistently been voted one of the World’s 50 Best Bars (2013-2017, 2021-2022) and uses inventive culinary approaches to mixology, engaging all five senses in what they term ‘Multisensory Mixology’.

Bar Manager Kai Ng and Assistant Bar Manager Billy Choi from Quinary Bar hosted a ‘guest shift’ with the Oblix bar team, where guests enjoyed a special menu featuring two Quinary cocktails.

The first being their signature Earl Grey Caviar Martini topped with a flamboyant coiffe of earl grey “air” and caviar. The second cocktail – La Sorpresa – was the cocktail that saw Billy awarded second place out of 10 finalists of the Hong Kong  ‘Cointreau Margarita Challenge 2023’.  This contemporary margarita is made with Cointreau, fresh pineapple and lime, served with bacon tortilla on the side. Cointreau’s Margarita Challenge serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Original Margarita, as well as the role Cointreau plays in elevating the cocktail experience.

Oblix’s Bar Manager, Eva Kovacikova also previewed two cocktails from the forthcoming new Oblix East menu, each featuring Cointreau. These included Caramelo – a modern, autumnal concoction made with mescal, Cointreau and caramelised apple, and Tears of la Llorona – a punchy margarita with sour mango and green chilli extract.

The full Oblix East menu was available all evening alongside the guest bar shift specials, all accompanied by a live band from 7pm.

La Sorpresa:

Served in a Coupe glass

  • 30ml
  • 30ml Fesh Pineapple Juice
  • 20ml Hops Infused Tequilla Blanco
  • 15ml Fresh Lime Juice
  • 5ml Agave Syrup
  • Garnish with bacon infused Tortilla chips

Earl Grey Caviar Martini:

Served in a Coupe glass

  • 45ml vodka
  • 20ml Apple Juice
  • 15ml Elderflower syrup
  • 10ml Cointreau
  • 5ml Fresh Lime Juice
  • 5ml Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Garnish with a slice of cucumber
