The Art School toasts its success in catering for The Turner Prize at St George’s Hall, Liverpool
On Wednesday 7th December in Liverpool, Paul Askew and his team from The Art School had the immense honour of catering for 100s of guests in the stunning St George’s Hall for The Turner Prize.
The star-studded event brought together many of the world’s leading artists, art critics, wider media and their guests to the city to see who would win the prestigious award in the spectacular setting. The winner was Veronica Ryan.
Having been selected to cater for the major event, Chef Patron Paul proudly led his team in creating a stunning 3-course menu with Italian wines. They brought The Art School’s fine-dining experience to St George’s Hall, maintaining the restaurant’s impeccable standards in the historic setting.
The menu included: for starters, a trio of marinated Ormskirk beetroot: pickled golden saffron, blackberry, candy carpaccio with plant-based soft cheese and winter leaves served with The Art School breads and oak smoked raw milk butter; two mains of either baked fillet of hake with smoked anchovy and parsley crust served on celeriac puree and chickpeas or baked Portobello mushroom stuffed with spinach, vegan feta, roast butternut squash, cordyceps and persillade with roasted shallot puree and black garlic ketchup both with locally sourced vegetables; and for dessert, a Valrhona ‘Amatika’ dark chocolate torte with praline crunch, mango and papaya gel, caramel popcorn and passion fruit foam.

“This has been such a huge honour for all of us. Working closely with Tate, we created a menu embedded in our philosophy at The Art School, with seasonal and sustainable ingredients sourced locally and three absolutely world-class Italian wines. In the last 12 months we have also cooked for the G7 delegation here in Liverpool, taken over Topham House at The Grand National and of course created the Bordeaux Bar De Vin at Martins Bank Building during the inaugural Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux festival. All of these were major projects for us outside of The Art School and we are delighted that The Turner Prize last night was another huge success for all involved and how well our menu was received by all the guests. It’s fantastic to see Liverpool once more on the national stage and hosting a stellar event like The Turner Prize.”
The Turner Prize 2022 nominees’ work – Heather Phillipson, Ingrid Pollard, Veronica Ryan and Sin Wai Kin – is currently on show at Tate Liverpool until 19th March.
