The Fat Badger, opening in November 2021 will offer a characterful dining experience built on the principles of sustainability.The fifth restaurant by Gladwin Brothers, the talented brother duo behind Notting Hill institution, The Shed, Rabbit on the Kings Road, Nutbourne in Battersea and most recently, Sussex in Soho. This new neighbourhood venture will be an all-day British drinks and dining concept set in the heart of Richmond. Guests can expect to enjoy all the charm of a countryside pub blended seamlessly with a distinctive take on traditional British dining.
Ingredients will be sourced directly from the Gladwins’ family farm and often foraged from the well-kept natural habitat surrounding their vineyard in West Sussex. Also supplying the kitchen will be local ethical suppliers, handpicked by the company’s Farm to Fork manager alongside Chef-Patron, Oliver Gladwin, to ensure his commitment to ‘what grows together, goes together’ remains central to their ethos.
Located in the picturesque Richmond, The Fat Badger will provide a local hub for the community, with delicious homegrown food, wine and a delightfully rustic interior.

The brand new menu, conceptualised by Oliver Gladwin, merges classic dishes with modern cooking techniques, and boasts the spoils of the English countryside and coast. In the main dining room, guests can expect flavourful fillets of meat and fish cooked on the grill, accompanied by locally sourced fresh vegetables and foraged herbs. British sharing specials will line the blackboards each evening – whole steamed fish, a signature ‘stargazy’ pie, and of course prime cuts of Sussex Simmental beef from Tomahawk to a gloriously tender Côte de Boeuf
For those looking for a more leisurely after-work or pre-theatre drink and bite to eat, the drinks saloon complete with comfortable plush loungers and tables-for-two encircling the bar, offer smaller plates. The bar will present fresh AAA Maldon oysters, local charcuterie sliced à la minute on an old-school slicer, house pickles, homemade crackers and a host of British cheeses. While away the early evening hours with a pint of craft lager and small plates like moreish Portland crab crumpets or Welsh Rarebit, the ultimate comfort food as autumn nights draw in.
Sunday roasts, otherwise known as “Sundays on the Farm” will be a ritual at The Fat Badger, with Bloody Mary’s and small plates enjoyed at the Saloon Bar, before moving into the dining room for a British roast with all the trimmings.
The wine list will feature the Gladwin family’s award-winning range of English wines from their boutique vineyard in West Sussex, Nutbourne Vineyards. Richard will also present a handpicked range of wines from other like-minded producers from the finest wine regions worldwide.
The Gladwins have transformed this space into a warm and stylish hub complete with oak wood floors, dark leather banquets, artwork by Bridget Gladwin and farm-style bric-à-brac, which give the interior a bucolic and welcoming charm.
