South Indian Street Food venue Tamila to open in Hackney Bridge this month

Introducing ex-Roti King Executive Chef Prince Durairaj and Operations Director Glen Leeson’s first joint venture

Hackney Bridge’s brand-new canal-side destination is set to welcome Tamila this month – a kiosk-style concept serving up South Indian street food by exRoti King Executive Chef, Prince Durairaj and Operations Director Glen Leeson

Set to open 24th September, Tamila is on a mission to bring Londoners together through the celebration of shared dining while championing traditional Tamil flavours. Prince – a chef of 15 years from Tamil Nadu, who earned his stripes working at various kitchens in the capital including the cult favourite Roti King – is at the helm of the kitchen at this game-changing culinary venture. Using the South Indian recipes he’s been perfecting and cultivating over the last two decades, the menu is a love letter to his motherland, paying homage to the vibrant, colourful, and flavour-packed dishes found in the state’s cuisine.

Traditional South Indian curries (paneer butter masala, chana masala, vegetable curry, chicken, mutton, dhal curries) and flaky roti will sit at the heart of the menu. Dosa – made from a fermented batter predominantly consisting of lentils and rice – will have a starring role on the menu. Served with tomato chutney, coconut chutney and dhal, customers will be able to choose from masala dosa, served with an aromatic potato curry, and the traditional dosa. Other culinary treasures will include bar snacks, such as: fried chicken, mutton keema roll, paneer pakora, gobi 65 and onion bhaji. It’s authentic South Indian food best enjoyed in groups, and eaten with hands. The concise drinks list will feature mango lassi, masala tea, Kalyani beer and Kingfisher beer.

Recognised for its varied range of spices, meat-free options and unique flavours, Tamila will shine a light on South Indian cuisine, offering a fast-casual Indian dining experience that doesn’t compromise on authenticity.

Joining Prince with his new concept is Head of Operations, Glen Leeson. With a career spanning  General Manager of BAO (JKS), 5 years as General Manager at Patty & Bun, and most recently, Operations Director of Roti King, Glen will bring his wealth of experience and hospitality knowledge to Tamila.

Set to be a jewel in the new Hackney Bridge development, it’s fair to say Tamila is effortlessly taking street food to new heights, and will no doubt become an East London institution.
