Royal Opera House launches Sleeping Beauty themed afternoon tea

The Royal Opera House is taking the magic of the ballet from the stage to the table with its festive Sleeping Beauty themed afternoon tea running Tuesdays-Saturdays from 17th December 2019 – 18th January 2020*. The enchanting feast is inspired by the classic ballet and will serve up a festive assortment of seasonal treats for both adults and children inside the fifth floor Piazza Restaurant throughout the run of the show.

There will be a selection of savouries that will conjure up the festive spirit by showcasing the seasonal flavours such as Roast Turkey Sandwiches on Granary Bread with a dash of Tangy Cranberry Relish and Severn and Wye Smoked Salmon Pin Wheel on Pumpernickel Bread. After an intermission of Warm Scones with Jam and Clotted Cream, the spotlight will then fall on the fairy tale-inspired sweets. For adults, the offering will include a Carabosse Pistachio Amandine, a Rose Champagne Snowman Macaron and a glittery, Golden Christmas Pudding, while little ones will tuck into a Carabosse Chocolate Nemesis and a Three Fairies Layered Jelly.

Also taking inspiration from the fairytale ballet, a wide selection of teas and tisanes from British tea company, Hope & Glory, will be available alongside a sophisticated Sleeping Beauty-themed cocktail list including Once Upon a Time (aromatic bitters soaked into a sugar cube and covered in Cognac before being topped with champagne, £16), Aurora Homage (Belvedere vodka and Vermouth gently stirred with lemon juice and lavender syrup, £14.50) and A Sloe Kiss (a twist on the classic Vesper Martini, with sloe gin and red vermouth for festive flair, £14).  A non-alcoholic cocktail will also be available named Enchanted Forest (pressed apple juice, kiwi syrup and lime topped off with soda, £5.50). To finish with a flourish, guests can opt to indulge in some Ruinart Champagne, available from £13.50 per glass.

The curtain raises for the Royal Opera House’s Sleeping Beauty afternoon tea on 17th December and prices start at £45 for adults and £27 for children. Gluten-free and vegetarian options will also be available.

*Excludes 24th, 28th and 31st December
