Borough Market celebrates 21 years with launch of the Borough Market Kitchen
This November, Borough Market will celebrate 21 years as a central pillar of London’s food community by introducing The Borough Market Kitchen, a new communal dining space housed in Jubilee Place. The Borough Market Kitchen will welcome over 20 food traders dedicated to cooking with the best of the market’s seasonal produce, with familiar favourites such as La Tua Pasta and Horn OK sitting alongside newcomers including Mei Mei by chef Elizabeth Haigh and an all new Pintxos bar from Mimo London.
Since its rebirth as a public market in 1998, Borough Market has cemented its international reputation as a food destination and has seen industry pioneers such as Brindisa and Neal’s Yard Dairy mark the beginning of London’s food renaissance. Now, under the airy covered roof of Jubilee Place, The Borough Market Kitchen will represent both the quality produce at the heart of the market and the vibrant community spirit that has flourished over the last two decades.
As The Borough Market Kitchen comes to life each lunchtime, the bustling space will be filled with long tables to encourage the local community and visitors alike to sit and share, shoulder to shoulder. Guests can take their pick of everything from Iranian Scotch Eggs to freshly made pasta from The Borough Market Kitchen’s stalls, with at least 30% of the ingredients in every dish sourced from the market itself. Continuing the market’s emphasis on ethics and sustainability, The Borough Market Kitchen will be constructed from recycled sustainable materials, and will be entirely single use plastic-free.
Fresh local and international produce continues to be the lifeblood of Borough Market, with 20 new producers cherry-picked to sell their wares along the Green Market.
Darren Henaghan, Managing Director, says;
“Borough Market has a proud heritage stretching back over 1,000 years, and the 21st anniversary of our opening to the public marks a modern coming of age for both the market and its traders. Our continuing commitment to delivering wonderful produce to everyone who comes through our doors is encapsulated in all the innovative plans we have for this year. The Borough Market Kitchen will be a new space for London to come and eat together, a community hub for the market, showcasing the incredible diversity of our produce and bringing together some of our market pioneers with exciting new traders.”
The Borough Market Kitchen will open in mid-November 2019.
