Shortlist Announced for the 2019 British Poultry Awards

Entries for the British Poultry Awards 2019 have been sent in in their droves by retailers, foodservice operators and suppliers, and now the very best have been shortlisted for judging and the chance to win a coveted trophy.

Run by the British Poultry Council, the awards showcase innovation and excellence from the past year across the chicken, turkey and duck industries. Over 150 entries were received from multiples own label ranges as well as well-known brands and small independent producers.

There are 16 categories in total including Best Poultry Launch for skus new to market in the past 12 months, plus each protein has an individual award for All Year Round and Seasonal products. The highly contested Foodservice Operator of the Year and Retailer of the Year category will be awarded to the companies that are deemed to carry and promote the broadest and best range of British poultry. In addition to the product-based awards, there are four categories awarded to businesses within the poultry supply chain who play a crucial role in helping farmers and manufacturers deliver on technology, welfare and logistics.

A panel of judges, all with a food background, will get together in July to taste their way through the entries.  From chaat masala chicken chops, Katsu chicken kiev, smoked duck breast to peri peri turkey kebab, each product will be assessed against set criteria.

The judging panel comprises Sheila Eggleston, Food & Drink Editor, Cost Sector Catering; Lee Maycock, chef consultant; Nichola Palmer, food writer for Woman magazine; and Jake Davies, Editor, Poultry.Network.

“Richard Griffiths, Chief Executive, British Poultry Council said: “These awards continue to be the biggest event in the poultry calendar.  The huge number of entries is testament to the high standards in UK poultry in terms of innovative and quality.  The awards is well deserved recognition for the standard of excellence achieved by farmers, producers and manufacturers.”

The 3rd annual awards will return to London on the 19th September at the Sheraton Grand Park Lane where the winners will be announced in front of over 250 guests. Winners can maximise the endorsement by using a dedicated logo across advertising and POS campaigns for 12 months.
