Jenki Opens Macha Bar in Soho

JENKI will open the doors to its new Soho matcha bar on Thursday 3rd September, bringing the brand to Soho for the first time.

Located on Berwick Street, the new opening places JENKI within one of London’s most established food and drink neighbourhoods, joining a growing mix of independent operators in the surrounding streets.

The Soho opening comes as JENKI continues its expansion across London, with the brand planning to grow to 11 locations across the capital by the end of 2026.

Otto Boyer, co-founder of JENKI, comments: “Soho has been somewhere we’ve wanted to be for a long time. We know from our customers that there has been real demand for us to open here, but it was important to wait for a site that felt right. Berwick Street has such a strong food culture and an amazing mix of independent names around us, so it feels like a very natural home for JENKI and an exciting place for the next bar.”

The new bar has been designed by female-led London studio KAI Interiors, whose hospitality projects include Tamila in King’s Cross and Lucy Wong in Soho. Inspired by the Japanese tea fields where JENKI sources its matcha, the interior combines natural clay, timber and fibres with stainless steel, balancing earthy, tactile materials with clean, modern elements. Dark greens, curved forms and dappled lighting further reference the landscape of the tea fields.

At the centre of the bar, JENKI’s matcha whisking station makes the preparation process a focal point of the customer experience, with matcha freshly whisked to order in view of guests using the brand’s first harvest matcha sourced directly from Japan.

The Soho site will feature intimate seating alcoves, as well as a dedicated retail area showcasing JENKI’s matcha, preparation tools and new lifestyle collection.

Founded by Claudia and Otto Boyer in 2020, JENKI began with market stalls and pop ups before opening its first permanent matcha bar in Spitalfields in 2021. The brand has since expanded across London, with locations including Selfridges, Covent Garden, Borough Market, Canary Wharf and Battersea Power Station.

The Soho opening forms part of JENKI’s wider growth plans as the brand continues to expand its presence across London this year with new openings in Soho, Liverpool Street, St Paul’s, Fitzrovia, and Marylebone.

The Soho bar will officially open on Thursday 3rd September with JENKI’s ‘Matcha on Us’ launch activation, offering complimentary matcha from 10am to 6pm at the new Berwick Street site.
