London based independent drinks company Meanwhile Drinks has announced the launch of their new tequila – Desdeya – joining their portfolio as a sibling brand to their mezcal, Pensador.

For Desdeya, Meanwhile Drinks have partnered with Grupo Tequilero Mexico – NOM 1468 – in Arandas in the Highlands of Jalisco.

Desdeya Uno, their first release, is an 100% Agave Tequila Blanco bottled at 42% ABV. It has been made with red wine yeast isolated in the Burgundy region of France, giving it a full-bodied profile with a rich mouth-feel and considerable length.

Ben Schroder, Founder of Meanwhile Drinks, says: “We’ve been busy working on Desdeya, alongside Pensador, since 2021. Whenever we went to Oaxaca we would include a few weeks in Jalisco. Over 3 years we met with many different distilleries and got a good overview of the category. We partnered with NOM 1468 because of their flavour-forward production principles, which is basically a commitment to flavour above efficiency and tradition, which is rare in the industry.

Ben continues: They also believe in natural process, working without additives, which is something we consider essential to making delicious tequila. We worked with 1468 for another year creating our bespoke blanco, adapting the process to extract maximum flavour from the blue agave. By using red wine yeast from Burgundy, and an increased ABV at 42%, we’ve developed a liquid which is bold and full-bodied, with a strong cooked agave character and a long finish. We’re delighted to share it with a wider audience.”

Desdeya Uno has tasting notes of mandarin, cashew nut, cocoa butter, and the honeyed sweetness of slow-roast Altos agave. It is recommended sipped neat, or mixed into a Tequila Soda or a Tequila Martini with white vermouth and orange bitters.

Desdeya joins Pensador as the 2^nd brand in the Meanwhile Drinks portfolio. The two brands come from different parts of Mexico, and represent different spirits cultures, but they are united in their principles of quality, honesty, and sustainability. They are archetypes of their categories, and proud examples of producers doing it the right way.

Like Pensador, Desdeya is B Corp certified. The 3^rd brand in the Tequila category to receive the certification. The B Corp certification is issued by B Labs UK and identifies a commitment to employees, suppliers, customers, and the environment with a principle of purpose beyond profit.

Desdeya joins Pensador as part of GHF’s portfolio of pioneering premium brands and will be represented in the trade by the Brand Development Agency who build drinks brands through targeted channel strategies and account management.
