This month, Britain’s first rice pudding bar launches in Canteen Food Hall, Greenwich Peninsula. Rizz Rice will pop up at Canteen bringing the ultimate comfort dessert, customised to perfection with a side of sustainability.

The collaboration comes from Canteen’s aim to support local, upcoming businesses and suppliers, by providing a platform and support, to help launch innovative concepts onto London’s food scene. Founder Jayson Jansen Van Vuuren wants people to see rice pudding in a new light by blending thischerished British dish with global inspiration and reigniting the passion and love for this timeless dessert.

Rizz Rice’s menu aims to elevate the humble pudding with a range of different flavours and toppings. All pudding pots are vegetarian and vegan, made fresh to order using the best organic and local ingredients. Pudding pot flavours include Creme Bruleé, Sticky Mango, Rocky Road, Ube (purple yam), Cookies & Cream and Lotus Bomb. Seasonal specials will also be available throughout the year including an upcoming Valentine’s Day Special – Strawberry Rice Pudding, Cherry Compote topped with Heart Sprinkles, White Chocolate Drizzle and a Glace Cherry.

Making sure no rice pudding goes to waste the team has created their very own zero-waste sweet arancini. All balls are made fresh to order, rolled in crispy Frosties cereal and air-fried to perfection for a crispy exterior with a warm, gooey centre. Toppings include Lotus Biscoff and Nutella for the a sweet take on an Italian classic.

Jayson says ‘We want folks to see rice pudding in a new light. For some, it’ll be about reliving a childhood moment with their favourite flavours from around the world. For others, it’ll be trying something brand new, unexpected, and bursting with originality. Rice pudding evokes fond memories all over the world. From Mexican arroz con leche, to nutty Thai black sticky rice, to the creamy pudding served with a dollop of strawberry jam you had as a child, rice pudding pots allow you to taste nostalgia with every spoon.
