With menus hidden inside storybooks and an assortment of Wonderland-inspired treats, the Mother’s Day edition of Sanderson’s Mad Hatter’s afternoon tea is the perfect way to tumble down the rabbit hole this mothering Sunday. The sumptuous feast is ideal for spending time with family as the treats are available for both adults and children – including the likes of a Queen of Hearts rose and strawberry Jammy Dodger and a Chocolate and raspberry Blue Caterpillar. Adults can toast the day with a glass of Champagne, and there’ll be a special gift for Mum as the tea party wraps up: a plant to take home with her.

For those looking to spoil their Mum with flowers, there’s no better place than Petersham Nurseries Covent Garden. On the day itself, there will be special Mother’s Day menus at both La Goccia and The Petersham. La Goccia will be more of a sharing affair, with a £45pp set menu featuring sharing platters like Portland crab crostini and Chicken al mattone, whereas the set menu at The Petersham (£75pp) begins with a Rose petal Bellini and includes dishes like Roast leg of lamb with mint sauce and a Pistachio and dill prosecco jelly with raspberry ripple ice cream. And for an extra treat for Mum, why not order a hand-tied bouquet to the table made from 100% British flowers?

For a sumptuous Sunday roast: Sundays at The Nitery
The new Sunday roast at The Nitery is an ode to the homely and nostalgic, making it ideal for bringing the family together this Mother’s Day. The carvery station will be dishing out slow reared cuts like Salt-aged sirloin with Yorkshire puddings and horseradish (£28) and Roast middle pork loin with crackling and apple sauce (£26), and there’ll be roast potatoes and gravy galore – as well as a deep dish of creamy Cauliflower cheese topped with crispy onions (£5). To round it all off, there’s no dessert more appropriate for Mum than Gizzi’s mighty Queen of Puddings – although the Rhubarb crumble is sure to go down a treat, too.

For the music lover: afternoon tea with a live cellist at The Betterment
To welcome in its first Mother’s Day, The Betterment by Michelin starred chef Jason Atherton will be launching a befittingly indulgent afternoon tea in partnership with Silent Pool Gin. Guests will be treated to specially blended Silent Pool Gin cocktail A Rose for a Mother, adorned with crystallised rose petals, or a glass of vintage Moet & Chandon champagne. The elegant menu will feature savoury treats such as the Brixham Crab with Somerset citrus yoghurt on rye, whilstsweet delicacies include the Silent Pool Gin and Tonic Cake. Enhancing the ambience, globally renowned cellist Aga Teodorowska will be delighting guests with her music whilst floral displays from local florist Princess & Ko will bedeck and softly fragrance the lounge.
