Marylebone Gastropub launches ‘The Sunday Lunch Club’ taking traditional Sunday lunch to the next level
The Royal Oak, Marylebone has launched ‘The Sunday Lunch Club’ – a weekly bespoke menu designed to bring groups together for a traditional at-home dining experience.
The menu crafted by the kitchen team at The Royal Oak, will be one of London’s first pubs to invite diners for a one option curated menu, themed around seasonal ingredients and calendar events.
Aiming to cut through the noisy ‘Sunday roast’ market, the gastropub is positioning the lunch club to diners as a ‘home away from home’ experience, offering a different set three courses each week.
By offering a simplified menu, The Royal Oak, Marylebone believes it will be able to maximise on the quality of the food, while keeping it affordable for consumers and competitive to other pub prices.
The menus are a nostalgic nod to home-cooking while remaining fresh and current. An upcoming menu features a selection of sharing starters for the table such as French Onion Soup, Smoked Aubergine Baba Ghanoush and sourdough bread, followed by Cassoulet of Confit Duck, Pork Belly and Toulouse Sausage, Haricot Beans and Creamed Cavolo Nero, finishing off with Spotted Dick and Spiced Custard. Weekly menus are available to view online at theroyaloakmarylebone.co.uk
Head chef for The Royal Oak, said: “With the popularity of late Sunday brunch still in peak, and the roast dinner market remaining competitive, it’s important our pub menu challenges Sunday tradition.
“Unlike the fine-dining foodie scene, the gastropub trade wants great quality at an affordable price. Our new Sunday Lunch Club allows us to maintain a dining experience, however its simplicity keeps it cost effective to make exciting food more accessible. The menu will change seasonally to incorporate different ingredients and ensure we’re catering to the weather – we know roasts aren’t as popular in the hot weather, so we’ll cater to this.”
They added: “Traditionally the Sunday roast was the one day of the week everyone in the family sat down together and connected. We want to emulate that dining experience, get everyone together in our relaxing ‘home away from home’ – good food without the hassle of the washing up.”
The pub will follow restaurants across London that are already showcasing themed single-experience menus. The Royal Oak, Marylebone will be one of the first pubs in the capital to offer this experience.
