Ten Finalists Revealed for Kikkoman Masters 2019

Global brand leader in soy sauce has today announced the final ten competitors in its prestigious Kikkoman Masters 2019 Chefs Competition.  The chefs will be competing for the sought-after title – Kikkoman Masters 2019 Winner – and win a seven-day trip to Japan.

This year entrants are required to devise a creative 2 course lunch menu (Starter & Main Course) for 4 guests within 90 mins.  The starter must be vegetarian and main course fish or meat using Kikkoman Naturally Brewed Soy Sauce as integral to the dish.   New for this year, Chefs were asked to identify allergens in each of the recipes.

Judges include TV Chef Brian Turner CBE; David Mulcahy Craft Guild of Chefs; Adam Handling, Frog by Adam Handling; Mark Edwards, Nobu, Simon Hulstone Chef/Owner, The Elephant in Torquay, Pip Lacey, Hiccy and Bing-yu Lee of Kikkoman UK.   Last years winner, Fergus Wilford, Gravetye Manor will also be joining judges at the final.

Chair of judges, David Mulcahy said “This year we received an incredible amount of entries, all of high standard making judging very tough and a close call on finalists. The inclusion of a vegetarian starter has resulted in a good cross section of inspired dishes.  It’s the first year that we’ve asked chefs to list allergens which has given them a little more to think about.”

Bing-yu Lee, Kikkoman UK Manager said “The response this year to our Kikkoman Masters 2019 competition was excellent.  Chefs have recognised Kikkoman Soy Sauce is an all-purpose seasoning, with depth of flavour that intensifies the taste of other ingredients.”

The final of this popular catering competition will take place at the Restaurant Show on Monday 30th September.  All the above judges will be there to watch the finalists recreate their starter and main course and select a worthy winner.

The final ten are as follows:

Rebecca Allen, St Ermins Hotel
