Sausage is The New Burger… Only Better! X-Upper to open 1st March
A sausage revolution is set to sweep the streets of Islington in the new year, with the launch of X-Upper on Upper Street, during on 1st March. X-Upper is a brand-new concept centred around one of the most beloved products: The sausage. X-Upper will serve Europe’s finest gourmet sausages, curated by top-rated chefs into memorable recipes.
The new restaurant, which is at 88 Upper Street, will initially seat 40 with plans to seat a further 40 people upstairs and 20 on the outside terrace later in 2019. The restaurant will also cater to grab-and-go consumers.
The intrepid X-Upper team walked 152km across 14 cities in Europe and trialled 513 sausages in their quest to find the best and highest quality sausages. The team further sourced top London-rated chefs to create a signature recipe for each selected sausage on the menu. Visiting guests can look forward to enjoying a range of succulent sausages, sourced from the best artisanal butchers. The menu includes six core sausages including the Olma Bratwurst, a protected Swiss bratwurst which is served with a signature purple mustard, pickled cabbage, and milk and honey sourdough. The result is simply stunning: forget what you know about sausages! In addition to the six core sausages, there will be daily rotating specials including delights such as the much-loved Austrian Käsekrainer and a smoky Polish Kielbasa. The sausages will be priced between £8 and £12 and diners can expect to spend around £8 to £15 per head.
To accompany the sausage menu, X-Upper will offer a carefully curated drinks menu including craft beers from FourPure brewery, alongside a selection of wines, and a range of premium soft drinks.
Chef James Tanner, from Ready Steady Cook and Saturday Kitchen, has headed up the new menu development with the help of Francesco di Marzio, who was Executive Chef at the two Michelin starred restaurant the Greenhouse and finalist of the prestigious San Pellegrino Young Chef Competition.
Mariam French, Managing Director of X-Upper, comments: ‘We’re so excited to be launching X-Upper. Forget what you think you knew about sausages! Sausages, in their many forms, are loved and consumed by millions of people. Through our travels around Europe, we uncovered a set of amazingly delicious and high-quality sausages and I can’t wait for Londoners to be exposed to the richness of our yummy products. Our mission is to completely re-invent the perception of sausage through serving authentic, high quality, local provenance sausages that are true delicacies.’
X-Upper prides itself on standing out from the crowd and this is evident across every element. From its prime location in the heart of Upper Street, to its thoughtfully designed interiors, X-Upper is a perfect pit stop for locals. The interiors feature exposed brick walls, a vibrant urban neon decor, and specially commissioned urban art to create a stylish, industrial atmosphere for eat-in or grab-and-go consumers. The restaurant will be open daily from 11am to 11pm for sausage lovers to visit and get their fix.
To celebrate the arrival of X-Upper, the restaurant will be offering free sausages to the first 500 customers through the doors when they open ahead of opening fully to the public on 1st March.
