Editor’s Review – Stunning Courtyard Afternoon Tea at York & Albany

Situated between the open expanse of Regents Park and the hustle and bustle of Camden Town, Gordon Ramseys’ York & Albany is an ideal location to cater for families and individuals alike.

The townhouse has been converted from a former coaching Inn to a 9-room hotel, restaurant and bar with terrace.

The restaurant offers a British a la carte menu – Starters include smoked salmon, salads, soup and pork loin.

Main dishes comprise of steak, guinea fowl, burgers, lemon sole and traditional fish and chips.

Adjacent to the bar is a small secluded summer courtyard, adorned with a pergola and hanging lights, this provided a picturesque setting for a delightful afternoon tea. We initially had to choose from a selection of loose leaf teas. – ranging from English breakfast, Earl Grey and Chamomile to the fragrant Jasmine Pearl and subtle Lemon verbena. Accompanying the tea was a fruit scone with jam and fresh clotted cream and a selection of sandwiches – smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise and ham served on soft, thick white bread.

For the sweet tooth, there was an assortment of, for want of a better description, mini desserts – macaroons, chocolate brownie, crème brulee and a stunning strawberry mousse. All in all, it made for an excellent experience of that very British of traditions.

So whether you are after a dining experience, afternoon tea, a refreshing drink or simply a place to stay on a visit to the Capital, York and Albany can accommodate all and with a touch of style.
