Travis Launch their First Lager: ‘Raze The Bar’ Exclusive Partnership with Signature Brew
Glasgow’s multiple BRIT and Ivor Novello-winning songwriting giants Travis are launching their first lager ‘Raze The Bar’. The band has collaborated with Signature Brew, the award-winning brewery, to create the new lager that has been unveiled to coincide with the near sold out UK leg of the band’s Raze The Bar tour that launched in Leeds last night, 5th December.
Signature Brew works with bands and musicians to deliver collaboration beers inspired by music. The partnership with Travis has seen the brewery create a lager to mark the band’s first UK headline tour since 2022 and tell the story behind ‘Raze The Bar’, the current single from Travis’ recently released tenth album ‘LA Times’, currently on the BBC Radio 2 playlist.
Written by Fran Healy, the track is a bittersweet story about the closure of “Black & White Bar,” a much-loved New York haunt for Travis and scores of local creatives. It utilises Fran’s masterful songwriting to tell of a fictional last night in the Greenwich Village bar with all of the frequent characters before it closed forever. In keeping with the th
eme of the track, ‘Raze The Bar’ sees Travis joined by friends. Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Brandon Flowers of The Killers join the party, supplying additional vocals on the track. LISTEN HERE
The band have kept an unbroken line-up since their formation at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1990s, and the new Raze The Bar lager acknowledges Travis’ formative years, recalling rambunctious nights revelling in the pubs of Glasgow.
Travis Bassist, Dougie Payne, comments, “Back in the mid 90’s we rehearsed in a small room above the legendary Horseshoe Bar in Glasgow. After rehearsals, being on the dole, we could just about scrape together the price of a pint, sometimes we even managed one each. And that precious, delicious and much needed pint was always a classic lager.
“So, who could have imagined that one day we would have the opportunity to create our very own beer? We are honoured and delighted to, in collaboration with the master brewers at Signature Brew, pay homage to the Horseshoe Bar, to the joy of a good lager and to Glasgow with a can of our ‘Raze The Bar’. Cheers! Dougie x”
A crisp, refreshing Helles with a soft malt backbone, Raze the Bar is complemented by delicate spice and lemon zest flavours from Bavarian hops. This enduringly sessionable lager is available to pre-order now for the on-trade and customers can purchase from Friday 6th Dec via here (ABV 4.8%, 3x440ml £10).
Travis will kick off the UK leg of the Raze The Bar Tour at Leeds O2 Academy on 5th December, with performances in Manchester, Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, London and more, before returning to Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 21st December for a massive homecoming moment for one of the city’s best loved local bands. They’ll be supported by Hamish Hawk across all the UK dates. The Raze The Bar tour has already visited Europe, South America and Mexico and will arrive in North America in January.
Tom Bott, Signature Brew Co-Founder, comments, “Signature Brew is all about uniting people through the power of great beer and unforgettable experiences. We’re thrilled to have partnered with Travis on Raze the Bar; it offers a celebration of their tour and a beer that helps tell the story behind their brilliant new track of the same name.”
