Finch: Grays & Feather Launches its First Neighbourhood Outpost
Grays and Feather will open Finch, a new wine bar, set within Brixton Village this September.
Marking the second bar to open by the wine focused experience company and following on from the opening of Plume in Covent Garden in 2018, Grays & Feather is set to embark on a new chapter with the launch of its first outpost south of the river; expanding its reach to one of London’s bustling neighbourhood destinations in Brixton Village. The launch of Finch is part of Grays & Feather’s wider expansion plans as the company is set to open a third avian-themed wine bar, Peregrine, at Leadenhall Market later this year.
Wine and Drinks: Andrew Gray, founder of Grays & Feather, will curate Finch’s wine offering and will include a selection of bubbles and wines from around the world with unusual vintages from small and unknown experimental winemakers in similar fashion to the menu at Plume. The wine list will be bespoke to Finch and will include more unsung heroes and rarities, while doubling down on the wines of England.
Ranging from crisp and refreshing glasses of sparkling wine to the rich to the complex flavours of orange wines; Finch’s theatrical team will be on hand to guide guests through a symphony of delightful choices. As well as providing SW9 residents and revellers with expertly sourced wines, the drinks menu will also include cocktails such as classic wine barrel-aged negronis, margaritas and old fashioneds to seasonal Brixton inspired cocktails using local fruit and spirits alongside Grays and Feather’s own beer Feral. Come the festive season, Finch will serve a mulled wine made to a secret family recipe that has become a firm favourite at its sister bar Plume and Christmas markets across the UK.
Food: The food menu is designed to pair with the comprehensive wine list on offer and will include snacks and sharing plates such as; artichoke pesto burrata and toast; baked camembert with honey, rosemary, and sourdough; duck and cognac mousse paté with pickles and sourdough; plus Grays & Feather’s signature Golden Boy grilled cheese sandwich. The headline dish on the menu will be a decadent Claw and Craw Roll featuring both lobster and crawfish with Marie Rose Sauce and chive in a brioche roll. Locally sourced cheese and cured meat boards are also available for guests to indulge in while they imbibe alongside fresh Maldon oysters.
Design and Concept: The 178 sq. foot venue will be a pocket-size ‘cabinet of curiosities’ featuring 12 covers inside the bar. An external area will seat 18 covers where guests will able to bring food from other venues within Brixton Village to pair with the drinks at Finch. The design by Faber and Company is inspired by the plumage of a finch and the space will feature a central bar with black and white stripes. A trio of folding window covers that double up as tables for the outside area will feature a rotating selection of artwork from local Brixton artists that will form part of the Brixton Art Trail.
Andrew Gray, Founder of Grays and Feather, says: “Having honed our offering in Covent Garden over the past five years, we are now ready to start a new adventure with the launch of our first neighbourhood wine bar in Brixton. Much like Plume, the wine list champions small winemakers which we endeavour to support as an independent company. Finch will have more of a focus on English wines and our goal will be to to provide the residents of Brixton and visitors to the area with a buzzing place to catch up during the week or spend a weekend evening drinking and dining. 2023 is set to be an exciting year for the company and we hope to bring more wine bars to the city with a focus on great wine, delicious food, and a sense of theatre that sparks conversation.”
Finch will open its doors on 18th September 2023 and reservations can be made by visiting https://www.finchwinebar.com
