September will see the arrival of Loyal Tavern in Bermondsey from Tom Cenci (former executive chef at Duck & Waffle) and Adam White (Riding House Café).
Loyal Tavern will add to Bermondsey’s exciting food scene the best of seasonal British produce in the relaxed neighbourhood environment that was previously Bermondsey institution, Village East.
Tom’s education began in Michelin restaurants in Paris and London before his journey to remote locations in Istanbul and Canada. Brought about by a love of local sustainable ingredients, Cenci’s produce led menu provides for simple dishes such as Cornish mackerel with apple, pine nut and truffle or venison tartar with beef dripping. Daily specials will also feature dishes such as rib of retired dairy cow or gurnard with crab bisque, carrot and seaweed.
Seasonality continues in the drinks with Bar Manager, Antonio Del Monte (previously The Ned and Soho House Group), with seasonal botanicals in punch bowls alongside a wine program which sees natural, new world, British and international wines carefully paired to match the dishes. Wine flights are available to order alone, in three different measurements and of course, a broad beer selection.
The former textile factory’s beautiful interiors have been given a Tavern makeover with 100 covers, two bars and a private dining room.

Adam White is the co-founder of House Café Company and is the mastermind behind hugely successful all-day dining restaurants and bars, Rail House Café in Victoria (2017), Riding House Café in Fitzrovia (2011) and Village East of Bermondsey (2006).
The popular dining destinations have become synonymous with brunch and rose to fame with introduction of dishes including the Burgerdict; an indulgent fusion between a burger and eggs benedict, and the famous ‘light-as-air’ Buttermilk Pancakes served with incredibly delicious sides.
Driven by a love of food and an affection for the collaborative nature of the kitchen, Tom Cenci has earned a place as one of London’s most prominent chefs. Having worked all around the world from Paris, Canada, Istanbul, as well as the UK, Tom’s wide ranging and vast experience has shaped his inventive menus and playful take on traditional British cuisine which includes broad European influences with an emphasis on local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients.
Most recently Tom Cenci was best known for his six-year stint at London’s first 24/7 upscale operation restaurant Duck and Waffle (2012-2018) His devotion to continued to pay off with Duck & Waffle reaching no. 29 in the 2016 National Restaurant Awards, a jump from no. 70 in 2015. Tom takes pride in using local British ingredients in his modern dishes and creating sustainable and seasonal menus.
Tom is also a figurehead for promoting health and wellbeing in the hospitality industry, evident through the launch of Hospitali-Tee that aims to help promote mental health, stress reduction and fitness. Summer 2019 will also see Cenci at PX+ Festival that encourages celebration and collaboration between all craftsmen of the hospitality industry.
