New Restaurant Kaio to Ignite West London This Summer
A bold new live-fire dining destination launches this August
This summer, West London welcomes one of its most exciting new restaurant openings as launches on Wednesday, 5 August bringing live-fire cooking, exceptional cocktails and striking design to the heart of Bayswater.
Occupying a landmark corner site within The Whiteley, the £1.5 billion transformation of the former Whiteleys department store on Queensway, Kāio combines an impressive restaurant, an elegant 360-degree cocktail bar and a stunning rotunda-style alfresco terrace, creating a vibrant destination set to become one of West London’s most talked-about dining experiences.
Inspired by the transformative power of flame, Kāio takes its name from an ancient Latin word associated with fire, burning and the sacred act of kindling. Fire is more than a cooking method—it is the restaurant’s philosophy, shaping every aspect of the dining experience.
Leading the kitchen is rising talent Head Chef Sachin Mistry, whose impressive career includes working at acclaimed restaurants such as The Grill by Tom Booton at The Dorchester, BiBi, Michelin-starred The Cross at Kenilworth and Akoko.
Kāio’s culinary and cocktails vision has been developed by Berkeley Simmons Leisure (BSL) in collaboration with their carefully selected Michelin level chef partners, alongside Head Chef Sachin Mistry.
The menu celebrates bold international flavours elevated by the intensity of charcoal and open-fire cooking. Guests can begin with dishes such as Torched Yellowtail with Sour Cherry Dressing and Glazed Smoky Aubergine with Dates, Honey & Walnut, before moving on to signature mains including Glazed Iberico Pork with Ginger, Garlic, Fennel & Apple Slaw, and Grilled Lamb Neck Fillet with Sour Cream, Tomato, Mint and Molasses.
Freshly baked flatbreads will be served from the traditional tabun oven while desserts continue the restaurant’s playful use of fire with creations such as Churros with Smoked Maple Syrup, Salted Butter & Black Truffle and Burnt Meringue with Coffee Sorbet & Gianduja Ganache.
Mistry commented: “It has been a privilege to work with BSL, their Michelin chef partners, and the talented Kāio kitchen brigade to bring our vision to life. Together, we have created a menu that celebrates vibrant, seasonal ingredients brought together with smoke, spice, acidity, and texture, with many dishes cooked over an open fire. We look forward to welcoming guests and sharing the Kāio experience with them soon.”
At the heart of the venue sits Kāio’s striking circular bar, serving a carefully curated selection
of signature cocktails alongside an extensive wine list, premium spirits and beers. House creations include the Kāio Tomatini, which features Ketel One Vodka with cherry tomatoes and white balsamic for a fresh, savoury twist.
Designed by Lamp Ldn Studio, the interiors are warm, immersive and contemporary, layered with rich terracotta tones, deep reds and tactile natural materials that echo the elemental nature of fire. Diners can enjoy views directly into the open-fire kitchen, while the chrome-clad bar offers an energetic social hub for drinks and light bites.
Outside, the beautifully landscaped terrace provides a secluded oasis in the heart of West London, perfect for evening cocktails and al fresco dining.
With exceptional live-fire cooking, inventive cocktails and a striking design-led setting, Kāio is set to become one of London’s most exciting new restaurant openings of the summer
