Editor’s Review – Wonderful Dining at Gallery Mess

Situated on the Kings Road in the heart of Chelsea, the Gallery Mess at the Saatchi Gallery offers excellent traditional food in a charming art-laden setting.  Whether seated in the long, vaulted interior or on the large outdoor terrace, the Gallery Mess is an impressive spectacle. Floor to ceiling arched windows and contemporary art on display, there is always something that catches the eye.

The menu is simple by design yet with a touch of style. The friendly and attentive waiter offered an initial freshly squeezed juice – the options being too numerous to mention, but a vast variety of fruits and vegetables could be ordered either individually or blended into cocktails or smoothies.

The menu for the Main course has a traditional feel – fish and chips, burger, roast chicken and beef fillet to name but a few. However, the taste and appearance was far from standard. The fish and chips, which I chose, were light in texture with crispy well-cooked batter and the mushy peas were just incredibly tasty. My partner enjoyed the Roast Beef, with roasted vegetables and Yorkshire pudding – the portion size meant there was no danger in leaving the table hungry.

For dessert, we selected the apple crumble and banana pancakes. Both were full of sweetness as the fruit flavours came to the fore – an extremely comforting way to finish a tasty, satisfying lunch.

Simply put, whether you are on a business dinner, leisurely lunch or afternoon tea, the Gallery Mess at the Saatchi Gallery is the perfect relaxing location to step away from the hustle and bustle of West London.
